Hi! I'm interested in playing Carlos from Welcome to Night Vale, and before I write out the whole app, I want to know if he'd be able to keep his ~~science~~.

I don't know if any of you are familiar with WTNV, but in canon, Carlos originated as a parody of B-movie scientists: handsome guys with no apparent disciplinary focus (a "scientist" as opposed to a physicist or a botanist or a geologist) and who have access to devices that whir and beep and have lots of flashing lights but a very nebulous purpose. He's shown using these machines in his canon, has a laboratory of his own, and is implied to be the leader of the team of scientists. As I play him, he's able to do a lot of really bullshit science as long as it's a genre-appropriate way (i.e., he could build a machine that picks up anomalies in the flow of time, but only if it beeped and whistled and he constantly muttered to himself while he was doing it).

This is not technically a superpower, but probably falls under a similar category to Looney Tunes characters surviving getting anvils dropped on them: it's how his genre works. Would he be permitted to keep this ability, or a toned-down version of it? Of course he wouldn't be able to build complex machines in the arena (unless the arena lent itself to it) but I'm thinking that he could work along the lines of MacGyver: making gunpowder from bird shit and sulfur, making bombs out of shampoo, etc. Basically, how realistic would his science have to be in this setting?

Thanks on all counts! That's totally acceptable to me, and I'm glad I get a little bit of bullshit science leeway. Most of his machines are meant to take readings, anyway, and would be hard to weaponize.

Last question -- what's your policy on headcanon in apps where pre-canon history is concerned? Is it something you want to see outlined, or would you rather your applicants kept it to themselves until they start playing?

Hi, I'm sorry to pester, I'm sure it's just a matter of being busy, but I just wanted to make sure an issue got fixed/addressed before the next death roll came around so that it didn't cause more problems. I made an inquiry about it in the "Questions" part of this week's death roll. Here.

I bailed the Psiioniic out of death in week 3 but it seems to have been ignored and I failed to notice until recently. Because of this, we've (the Psiioniic mun, myself, and others) been playing as if he is still alive, and thus no death thread was made. So I wondered if we are to handwave that he died, whether in the next week or one of past weeks, and if so, what's the status on the points used for bailing the Psiioniic here. Is it too late to put the Psiioniic back into the weekly rolls? (is that even do-able?) Again, sorry to pester, (and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask about it!) it's just that it affects how things are to be played is all.

Same thread, new question! What kind of Capitol technology would it be permissible for Carlos to get his hands on? Specifically, for right now, he's looking for a force field generator that he can take apart, find how it works, and put back together again. What other kinds of machines would he be allowed to tinker with?

Also, I want to make it clear that the machines he's building that are meant to detect irregularities in reality are non-functional and will stay that way, since he is confined by the non-cartoon, realistic science of the Capitol.

Hi! I'm just asking what kind of machines the Capitol would legally allow Carlos to get his hands on for tinkering purposes. Arena technology is off-limits, I imagine, but are a force-field generator or holographic projector like they have in the training room possibilities?

oh man I'd love to see it, send pictures along when it's done 8D

He'd ask the Capitol for more advanced technology, try to get it through legal channels -- so they'd deny his request for a force-field generator?

Got it, cool! It's okay with me if the Capitol gets suspicious of Carlos -- Carlos is participating in Ian C's plot and that will get him on a government watch list for sure.

Also, since I apped Stephen, the Reagan family got fleshed out a bit more, and I wanted to run the details past you guys to make sure they were setting-appropriate and okay.

The way I imagine it is, Marcus Reagan distinguished himself 75 years ago in the District rebellion by pacifying a particularly difficult section of a district. The pacification was brutal and involved great loss of District life, and Marcus was rewarded with a political position. His son, Antonius, married a brilliant and politically-savvy woman named Livia, and together they solidified the Reagans' position as people of influence. Marcus died peacefully of old age. Livia's son, Julius, is Stephen's father, who (as I'm pretty sure I mentioned in the app) died of poisoning, and Portia, Stephen's mother, poisoned that person right back.

Would Cyrus be allowed to hold a political position similar to a member of the President's cabinet? Not the most powerful person in Panem, but among the top 20, thanks to being born into a position of privilege and being ambitious as hell. If not, and he needs to be less powerful, I'm flexible -- as long as he's influential and high up enough where dirty hands are the norm, I'm happy.

How would almost fully robotic cyborgs be allowed to work in the Arena? Stuff like what would be allowed with targeting systems, how strong the armor is when it's basically the only reason he's able to walk and live? Stuff like that. I'm looking to nerf him so where he can't godmode his way out through an Arena and I was thinking the fact he needs a glucose solution for his nutritional intact might be a way to wither him down fast, since he can't eat/drink.

I was going to app him as just discovering he's a cyborg :|a

Alex can't handle the nutritional intake himself - they show it on screen as being handled by his team through tubes out the back of his head while he's hooked into a giant cradle. So I was thinking he could function for a bit without it but he'd be steadily diminishing in performance unless he received a Capitol upgrade? Possibly in response to a poor performance despite odds being more in his favor compared to other Tributes?

Hello glorious mod-beings, I'm in the process of designing a game and I think that your credit/activity check system is brilliant. With your permission, I'd love to adapt it for use.

Wondering if the Capitol will be rerunning the exposés on tv for characters who weren't in the game during the plot to see.

Another Molotov question: about bathrooms in the Tribute Center. Are they communal, or are there some rooms that have small ones attached?
