Specifically, for right now, he's looking for a force field generator that he can take apart, find how it works, and put back together again. What other kinds of machines would he be allowed to tinker with?

Also, I want to make it clear that the machines he's building that are meant to detect irregularities in reality are non-functional and will stay that way, since he is confined by the non-cartoon, realistic science of the Capitol.
